Darrell Ubick (Darko Ljubić)
Birthplace: Dubrovnik, Croatia (then, Jugoslavija) Co-author: T.S. Briggs, J.A. Dunlop, and R. Ozimec. Autobiography: I was born as Darko Ljubić in the medieval city of Dubrovnik, and spent my early years in the nearby villages of Šipanska Luka and Ston, living close to the sea and forests. My family immigrated to California in 1960, at about the time Sputnik was orbiting the skies, and eventually settled in San Francisco in 1961. I collected insects and arachnids as a youth and was introduced to more formal study in high school by my instructor, Tom Briggs. The summer of 1972 was spent in Arizona at the AMNH field station, learning spiders from Vince Roth and Willis Gertsch. I attended San Jose State University and majored in Entomology, earning a BS (1976) and MA (1980). My collaboration with Briggs, on the systematics of Phalangodidae, started in 1981. Field work: I have conducted field work mostly in California and adjacent areas of the western Nearctic, but with several collecting trips to tropical regions, as Florida, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Spent several summers collecting in Croatia, with shorter trips to Italy, England, and New Zealand. Have participated in CAS expeditions to Africa (Tanzania, Equatoria Guinea, Madagascar, and South Africa) and Asia (China and Myanmar).

DISCLAIMER — This resource
was first intended as for private use of the members of the arachnology
lab of Museu Nacional, but later we thought "why not to share
this with the world?". Eventually if greedy lawyers (redundance...)
start to bother us with copyright matters, etc, we may have to be forced
to quit the project and keep this just to ourselves. |
