Jeffrey Walden SHULTZ
Birthplace: Albion, Michigan
BIOGRAPHY: Shultz graduated with a Bachelor of Science in zoology from Michigan State University, where he completed an undergraduate thesis on locomotion in spiders. He obtained a Master of Science in zoology at Ohio University in 1984 under the direction of Jerome S. Rovner and a Ph.D. in the Dept. of Zoology at Ohio State University under the direction of Barry D. Valentine in 1990. His doctoral dissertation concerned the phylogenetic relationships and the evolution of locomotor mechanisms in arachnids. He obtained an Alfred P. Sloan Postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Studies of Evolution and worked with David P. Mindell at theUniversity of Cincinnati and worked on the phylogeny and evolution of HIV. He was hired as a faculty member in the Department of Entomology at the University of Maryland in 1994, where he currently works.
